Radnor, Pa. – The Ithaca College men’s lacrosse team defeated host Cabrini 18-11 in the second-round of the NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Championship Tournament. The Bombers (16-3) advance to play at Gettysburg in the quarterfinals Wednesday at a time to be determined. Senior goalie
Dennis Butler (Pleasantville/Pleasantville) made 19 saves, 12 of which came in the second half, to record the win.
The two team traded goals in the first half and Bombers held a 9-7 lead at halftime. The Cavaliers (15-3) scored two of the first three goals in the second half to pull within one goal at 10-9 at the 8:41 mark of the third quarter. Ithaca responded by going on an 8-0 run that was capped by junior
Kevin Bush’s (Arapahoe [Colo.]/East Point, Fla.) third goal of the game 4:33 into the fourth quarter. Cabrini added two goals in the final 10-minutes for the 18-11 final.
Junior
Logan Bobzien (Arapahoe/Centennial, Colo.) registered a game-high four assists and five points for the Bombers. Junior
Craig Lepiane (West Irondequoit/Rochester) scored four goals and
Bush finished with four points. Sophomore
Mike Cintineo (Honeoye Falls-Lima/Honeoye Falls) also tallied three goals, while junior
Matt Nelligan (Pingree School/Rowley, Mass.) and sophomores
Tim Pfeffer (Penfield/Penfield) and
Matt Ruhnke (Brien McMahon/Norwalk, Conn.) added two goals each.
Nelligan now ranks seventh on Ithaca’s career goals list with 115 and is now tied for 17th on the all-time scoring list Mike Seymour (1997-99) with 148 career points. Bobzien now has 47 career assists and 108 career points, ranking him 17th and 23rd among the Bombers’ career leaders, respectively. Cintineo’s three goals give him 71 for his career, which ties him with Bill Ellsworth (1978-81) for 21st on the career goals list.
